This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.
The Defense Health Agency, National Capital Region Medical Directorate (NCR-MD) is the future of Military Medicine- a partnership in World Class Medical Healthcare. The Walter Reed National Military Medical Center, the National Intrepid Center of Excellence (NICoE), Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Dilorenzo Clinic and the Joint Pathology Center, provide world class medical services to the nation's service members and their families.
About the Position:
This position is with the Joint Pathology Center, Consultative Services, located in Silver Spring, Maryland. Work includes diagnosis of second opinion and difficult pathology cases sent from federal government pathologists. The work is performed in an office setting, conference rooms, laboratories, and lecture halls. The work area is adequately lighted, heated, and ventilated. Extensive microscope work is expected. The applicant can expect to provide diagnoses for other federal pathologists requiring consultation on difficult cases in Hematopathology. Education of residents and medical students and contribution to the medical literature can also be expected.
Responsibilities:
The duties of this position include serving as a staff pathologist with responsibilities for consultation, education, and research in support of the departmental goals in the study of pathology. Prepare scientific papers and reports for publication of research findings. Extract or work with patients' body fluids or tissue; prepare patients' specimens for examination, perform specialized tests on body fluids or tissue samples, or confirm patients' test results. Provide expert lectures to medical students, residents, fellows, and practitioners about pathology, and speak at scientific meetings on a national and international level. Initiate and pursue research ideas and projects to a meaningful conclusion and publish the final results.
Travel Required:
Occasional travel - Occasional business travel requirement is approximately 5%.
Physiatrist
Needed to work a clinic positon at Walter Reed Nation Military Medical Center (WRNMMC) in Bethesda, MD. Clinic hours with hourly wage, malpractice coverage, acquired PTO, Vacation and Sick leave along with Holiday pay. Send a current CV ASAP with availability for immediate consideration. Hours are Mon-Fri 0700 to 1700 hours 8.5 hours per day with .5 hours for lunch. Must be a MD or DO Board Certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (ABPMR).
Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) physicians, also known as physiatrists, treat a wide variety of medical conditions affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons.
PM&R physicians are medical doctors who have completed training in the specialty of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R), and may be subspecialty certified in Brain Injury Medicine, Hospice and Palliative Medicine, Neuromuscular Medicine, Pain Medicine, Pediatric Rehabilitation Medicine, Spinal Cord Injury Medicine, and/or Sports Medicine.
Specifically, PM&R physicians:
Treat patients of all ages
Focus treatment on function
Have a broad medical expertise that allows them to treat disabling conditions throughout a person’s lifetime
Diagnose and treat pain as a result of an injury, illness, or disabling condition
Determine and lead a treatment/prevention plan
Lead a team of medical professionals, which may include physical therapists, occupational therapists, and physician extenders to optimize patient care
Work with other physicians, which may include primary care physicians, neurologists, orthopedic surgeons, and many others.
Treat the whole person, not just the problem area
Depending on the injury, illness, or disabling condition, some PM&R physicians may treat their patients using the following procedures/services:
EMG/Nerve Conduction Studies
Ultrasound guided procedures
Fluoroscopy guided procedures
Injections of spine
Discography, Disc Decompression and Vertebroplasy/Kyphoplasty
Nerve Stimulators, Blocks and Ablation procedures—Peripheral and Spinal
Injections of joints
Prolotherapy
Spasticity Treatment (Phenol and Botulinum toxin injections, intrathecal baclofen pump trial and implants)
Nerve and Muscle Biopsy
Manual Medicine/Osteopathic Treatment
Prosthetics and Orthotics
Complementary-alternative medicine (i.e. acupuncture, etc.)
Disability/impairment assessment
Medicolegal consulting

Our physicians care for Patients Monday through Friday, 8-5 in the office, seeing on average 12-15 geriatric patients per day. Shared after-hours call average is 1:15. No hospital work is required.
